“Fiji Calls: An Emotional Return for an Australian Couple”

An Australian couple, Owen and Christine Twist, are delighted to be back in Fiji. They were among over 2,000 passengers on the P&O Cruises Australia ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday. The Twists had previously lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva.

“It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some local friends that we have connected with through social media,” Mr. Twist shared. He reminisced about their initial two-year stay, explaining, “I liked the people so much that I stayed for nine. Even after returning home, Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts.”

The couple’s daughters, both nurses, spent part of their childhood in Fiji, adding to the emotional significance of their visit. During their return, the couple expressed appreciation for the lasting friendships they formed during their time in the country.

The Twists also took the opportunity to purchase Fijian souvenirs, including handicrafts from local woodcarver Jone Sito. Their cruise ship is set to continue its journey to Taveuni before heading back to Sydney.
