The Cabinet has reached a decision to amend the 2002 Passport Act, enabling the issuance of the Official Passport to specific senior officials, solely for official purposes and limited to the duration of their appointments.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who made this announcement, clarified that the Official Passport is one of four types published by the Fiji Immigration Department, currently restricted to disciplined forces engaged in peacekeeping missions. The passport categories also include Ordinary, Diplomatic, and Emergency Passports.
The proposed changes to the Passport Act will be presented to Cabinet for further evaluation and consideration.
This amendment reflects the government’s intent to streamline official travel for senior officials, promoting efficiency in diplomatic and administrative operations within Fiji. As the Cabinet prepares to evaluate this proposal, it opens the door for improved travel protocols that could bolster Fiji’s international engagement.
Overall, this initiative symbolizes a commitment to better supporting those in leadership roles as they represent the nation on various platforms, ensuring that Fiji remains active and responsive on the global stage.
