Investment Fiji has announced the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards 2024, now accepting applications from Fijian businesses interested in participating.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Manoa Kamikamica launched the awards on Wednesday. He praised the private sector’s key role in fostering innovation and adapting to economic changes while the government supports business growth through a conducive environment.
“We understand the importance of creating a conducive environment for investors, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and regulatory support that streamline processes and mitigate risks,” Kamikamica stated.
He highlighted several government initiatives, such as the Investment Facilitation Committee, Fiji National Digital Strategy, Fiji Integrated Licenses and Permits Approval System, and the businessNOW information portal for entrepreneurs and investors.
Kamikamica mentioned that this year’s awards aim to honor businesses’ proven success, especially those focusing on innovation and sustainability in their future strategies. He encouraged small and medium businesses and young entrepreneurs to apply.
Investment Fiji’s chief executive, Kamal Chetty, noted that past winners have set high standards and inspired others with their stories of innovation and commitment. “Last year, we received 219 applications and recognized businesses in various categories. This year, we are introducing four new award categories to further celebrate excellence in different sectors,” Chetty said.
The new categories include the Excellence in Yasana (provincial) Aspiration Award, Excellence in Employer Award, Excellence in Fisheries Award, and Excellence in Forestry Award. Traditional categories include the Supreme Award, General Awards (Premier Small, Medium and Large Businesses Operating Internationally), and Special Awards (such as Agribusiness Innovation Award, Best Sustainability Initiative Award, Excellence in E-Commerce Transformation Award, Excellence in Innovation Award, Excellence in Outsourcing Award, and Excellence in Service Award).
Originating in 1992 as the Prime Minister’s Exporters Awards, this program is one of Fiji’s longest-running business awards. This year’s event is fully sponsored, with Fiji Water sponsoring the Supreme Award.
The theme for this year’s awards is “Business Innovation and Sustainability.”
