The Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) has praised the Coalition Government’s presentation of the 2024-2025 National Budget. FBOA President, Richard Lal, acknowledged that any government must strive to balance national aims and ambitions within resource and budget limits. He especially commended the increased allocation for student transportation aid.
The budget allocation for student transport aid has seen a boost from $20 million to $37 million, stated Lal. This hike will allow the Government to fully cover student fares starting on 1st August 2024, as per the agreement between the government and the bus operators.
For over five decades now, bus operators have been offering children a 50% discount while travelling to school. Lal praised the government for acknowledging the duty of the State, instead of private entities like the bus industry, to provide such assistance.
