Fiji Builkula Prepares for Showdown: Will Their Ruck Be Ready?

Fiji Builkula held a training session at Albert Park yesterday in preparation for their upcoming match against the Cook Islands Moana team during week two of the 2024 Pacific Championships.

Team captain Talei Holmes addressed the media following the practice and emphasized that they focused on key areas that need enhancement, with a commitment to improving throughout the week.

“We all came together to work on our attack and defense, practicing all the movements we will execute throughout the week,” Holmes stated. “It was great to connect as a team and handle the ball for a bit.”

Holmes recognized the physical strength of their opponents from the Cook Islands, particularly in the middle positions.

“We need to strengthen our ruck because they have some powerful players in their lineup, and it’s crucial that we solidify our defense, as that will be key to securing a win,” she remarked.

Holmes, who has ties to Taveuni in the North, shared that the team has developed a strong bond since entering their training camp at the Grand Pacific Hotel on Saturday, followed by a church service on Sunday at Qauia Methodist Church in Lami.

“We have already formed a deep connection off the field through devotions and team meetings, which I believe is vital,” she added. “We’re showing that strong bond on the field and we’ve continued to grow as a unit.”
