The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that Tropical Disturbance TD01F is showing a low potential to develop into a Tropical Cyclone. Nevertheless, the disturbance is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to Fiji.

As of midday, TD01F is located approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 kilometers northwest of Nadi. The Fiji Met warns that periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely as the system approaches the islands. Strong northwest winds, averaging 37 to 46 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 55 kilometers per hour, are forecasted to impact coastal areas such as Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and others throughout the western regions and across various islands.

There is a risk of localized heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, particularly in areas that are already saturated. Furthermore, river levels in major rivers are expected to rise due to the incoming rain as TD01F nears the country.

In summary, while the tropical disturbance does not pose a significant threat of developing into a cyclone, residents should remain vigilant due to the anticipated severe weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, which could lead to flash flooding.

This is a reminder of the importance of preparedness during inclement weather. Communities in affected areas should take precautions, stay informed of updates from local authorities, and be prepared for potential flooding. Despite the challenges, such weather events also highlight the resilience and solidarity of communities coming together to support one another in times of need.
