Fiji Boxing Commission Implements Rule on One Fijian Title Per Boxer

According to the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) regulations, a boxer is permitted to hold only one Fijian title. This rule, effective from May 17, prompted the BCF to vacate the flyweight and super flyweight titles from Junior Binnu Singh.

Chairman Adi Narayan addressed this policy after The Fiji Times covered the story on June 27. The regulation states that if a champion wishes to contest a title in a different weight division, prior approval from BCF directors is required. If successful, the boxer must notify the BCF within seven days of which title they prefer to hold.

Narayan emphasized that titles belong to the BCF, not individual boxers, and that all stakeholders were informed of this rule in May. He noted that Singh was aware of the regulation since April but remained silent until the issue garnered attention on social media.

Narayan assured that the BCF would address other boxers holding multiple titles, with Winston Hill being the next in line. Hill will be given seven days to decide which title he wishes to retain. Narayan stated that the BCF seeks fairness for all boxers and aims to handle the matter respectfully.

Overall, the BCF is committed to ensuring that its rules and regulations are upheld uniformly across the sport.
