Despite the individual accolades, the overall boxing competition was dominated by the Police team. Takele expressed his gratitude for the win, emphasizing the rigorous preparation he endured leading up to the event. “I thank God for the win, and we didn’t have an easy preparation for this competition,” he stated. He acknowledged the intense one-month training camp, which was filled with challenges that tested his resolve.
Takele, who described the Ratu Sukuna Bowl as a prestigious event representing the rivalry between the RFMF and the Fiji Police Force, highlighted the sacrifices made by the boxers. He noted that the lightweights faced difficulties in maintaining proper nutrition and had to cope with early morning training sessions. “I dedicate this win to my dad and family members that came to watch me and also the army officers at camp,” he added.
In his first year of boxing, Takele has participated in seven matches since joining the Army Boxing Club. He credited his brother, a trainer and fellow boxer, for encouraging him to take up the sport. He shared insights on the misconceptions surrounding boxing, clarifying that it is rooted in discipline, focus, humility, and determination. Takele encouraged young people to take up boxing not just for competitive purposes but also for self-defense and fitness.
