Fiji Bound: An Australian Couple’s Heartfelt Return

An Australian couple, Owen and Christine Twist, are thrilled to have returned to Fiji. They were among over 2,000 passengers on a P&O Cruises Australia cruise ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday.

The Twists lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva. Mr. Twist expressed his joy at being back, saying, “It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have contacted through social media.” He reflected on their time in Fiji, noting, “We came for two years, but I liked the people so much that I stayed for nine. Then I had to go home, but Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts.”

Their daughters, both nurses, spent part of their childhood in Fiji, adding to the nostalgia of their visit. The Twists cherished the lasting friendships formed during their time in the country and expressed gratitude for those meaningful connections.

In addition to their heartfelt reunion, the couple brought back Fijian souvenirs, purchasing handicrafts from local woodcarver Jone Sito. The cruise ship is scheduled to continue its journey to Taveuni before making its way back to Sydney.
