Local rugby teams will have the opportunity to showcase their skills against the Fijian Drua during next week’s 3rd Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. This event, which marks the inaugural participation of the Fijian Drua, has been welcomed by Tournament Director James Vulinituraga, who sees it as a promising addition that will enhance the competition.
Vulinituraga noted that the funding from this year’s tournament will contribute toward the construction of a community bridge, which is currently underway. This development highlights the tournament’s commitment to not only promoting sports but also supporting local infrastructure projects.
In addition, the Fiji 7s team will establish two trial teams from their extended squad, showcasing their depth and talent. The tournament will feature a diverse lineup, with a total of 32 men’s teams, 8 women’s teams, and 16 Under-20 teams competing for a total prize pool of $8,500.
This tournament not only provides a competitive platform for local teams but also fosters community spirit and development. The involvement of the Fijian Drua is expected to raise the standard of play and create an engaging experience for spectators. Overall, the Mataso 7s promises to be an exciting event for players and fans alike.
