Day one of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s showcased exciting rugby action in both the U21 and men’s divisions, as teams vigorously fought for victories in their pool matches.
In the U21 category, five teams maintained their undefeated status after completing two pool matches. Vatukoro U21 narrowly defeated Radisson Naduruniu with a score of 12-7 in a competitive second match, while Village Boys triumphed over Duiyasana with a decisive 28-12 scoreline.
Continuing their impressive performance, TEMC Birdland Brothers recorded a 10-0 victory against Survivor Burotu. The defending champions, AJ Pallets Ba River, displayed their dominance by defeating Namara 31-5, and Dominion Brothers Blue concluded the day with a solid 15-0 win over Uluisuvani.
Earlier in the day, Vatukoro initiated their campaign with a solid 17-5 victory against Dominion Brothers Red. Village Boys had a commanding 15-0 win over Survivor Brothers, while TEMC Birdland Brothers made a strong impression with a 29-0 win against Duiyasana. AJ Pallets Ba River also secured a 12-0 victory over Midland.
The men’s division was equally intense. Defending Kadavu 7s champions Wardens Gold started their journey with a dominant 19-0 win over Bularoos Rugby, and Vatukoro Brothers surpassed Midland with a score of 17-5. Namuaniwaqa delivered a powerful performance by defeating Naiova 19-0, while Fire Rugby won by default against Nawaka.
The hosts, Malake, celebrated a thrilling 7-5 victory over Viwa Rugby, and Namara Rugby narrowly overcame Army FTG with a 14-7 win. Dominion Brothers claimed a significant 26-0 victory over Yaro Chiefs, and Mataravua One achieved a 29-12 win against Taikita Brothers. The standout performance of the day was recorded by M. Recht Devo Babas, who dominated Senibiau Blues with a staggering 34-0 win, while Uluinakau Babas also impressively defeated Namacuku Brothers 19-0.
