The third edition of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s has commenced, bringing together 64 teams at Narauyaba Ground in Rakiraki for three days of competitive rugby matches.
Tournament president Isoa Tute noted that the event not only promotes rugby but also contributes to the development of Malake Village.
“We have 32 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, and 8 women’s teams participating from various regions of Fiji, including Ra,” Tute stated.
The tournament aims to showcase the skills of the Malake Village team while also serving as a significant fundraising initiative for local projects. Two-thirds of the funds generated will be directed toward village development, with the remaining third assisting the Malake 7s team in competing in other local tournaments.
Tute mentioned that primary projects include renovating the church and constructing a gym for the village.
The Malake 7s committee has committed to a five-year fundraising strategy to ensure that the tournament continues to support both the sport and community enhancement.
