The first day of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s offered exhilarating rugby matches in both the U21 and men’s categories, with teams fiercely competing for victories in their pool games.
In the U21 division, five teams emerged undefeated after two matches. Vatukoro U21 narrowly defeated Radisson Naduruniu with a score of 12-7 in a closely contested second pool match, while Village Boys showcased their strength with a 28-12 triumph over Duiyasana.
TEMC Birdland Brothers maintained their momentum by shutting out Survivor Burotu 10-0. Defending champions AJ Pallets Ba River demonstrated their dominance with a decisive 31-5 win against Namara, and Dominion Brothers Blue concluded the day’s events with a 15-0 victory over Uluisuvani.
In the initial round, Vatukoro began with a solid 17-5 victory over Dominion Brothers Red, while Village Boys dominated the match against Survivor Brothers, winning 15-0. TEMC Birdland Brothers made a significant impact with a commanding 29-0 win over Duiyasana, and AJ Pallets Ba River secured a 12-0 win against Midland.
The men’s division also provided intense competition. Reigning champions Wardens Gold kicked off their campaign with a strong 19-0 victory over Bularoos Rugby, while Vatukoro Brothers claimed a 17-5 win against Midland. Namuaniwaqa triumphed over Naiova with a 19-0 win, and Fire Rugby took victory by forfeit against Nawaka.
Host team Malake had an exciting game, edging out Viwa Rugby 7-5. Namara Rugby narrowly defeated Army FTG 14-7, while Dominion Brothers asserted their dominance with a 26-0 victory over Yaro Chiefs. Mataravua One also found success with a 29-12 win against Taikita Brothers. The most significant win of the day was recorded by M. Recht Devo Babas, who decisively defeated Senibiau Blues 34-0. Uluinakau Babas also celebrated a clear victory, finishing 19-0 against Namacuku Brothers.
