The opening day of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s showcased exhilarating rugby action in both the U21 and men’s divisions, with teams fiercely competing to secure victories in their pool matches.
In the U21 category, five teams remain unbeaten after their initial two pool matches. Vatukoro U21 narrowly defeated Radisson Naduruniu 12-7 in a tightly contested second match, while Village Boys triumphed over Duiyasana with a score of 28-12. TEMC Birdland Brothers continued their impressive form, securing a 10-0 win against Survivor Burotu. Defending champions AJ Pallets Ba River displayed their prowess by overwhelming Namara 31-5, and Dominion Brothers Blue concluded the day’s events with a 15-0 win over Uluisuvani.
Earlier in the first round, Vatukoro made a strong start with a 17-5 victory over Dominion Brothers Red, and Village Boys dominated Survivor Brothers, winning 15-0. TEMC Birdland Brothers marked their presence with a 29-0 win against Duiyasana, while AJ Pallets Ba River clinched a 12-0 win against Midland.
The men’s division also offered intense competition. The reigning Kadavu 7s champions, Wardens Gold, kicked off their campaign with a decisive 19-0 victory over Bularoos Rugby, while Vatukoro Brothers defeated Midland 17-5. Namuaniwaqa exhibited dominance, annihilating Naiova 19-0, and Fire Rugby claimed a victory by default against Nawaka.
Hosts Malake experienced a close 7-5 win against Viwa Rugby, while Namara Rugby narrowly beat Army FTG 14-7. Dominion Brothers made a strong impact with a resounding 26-0 victory over Yaro Chiefs, and Mataravua One secured a 29-12 win against Taikita Brothers. The largest victory of the day belonged to M. Recht Devo Babas, who decisively defeated Senibiau Blues 34-0. Uluinakau Babas also enjoyed a comfortable 19-0 win over Namacuku Brothers.
