Fiji Bitter Malake 7s: Day One Delivers Rugby Thrills!

The opening day of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s showcased exciting rugby action in both the U21 and men’s divisions, with teams fiercely competing for victories in their pool matches.

In the U21 category, five teams remain unbeaten after completing two pool matches. Vatukoro U21 narrowly defeated Radisson Naduruniu 12-7 in a closely contested match, while Village Boys dominated Duiyasana with a score of 28-12.

TEMC Birdland Brothers maintained their strong performance, shutting out Survivor Burotu 10-0. Defending champions AJ Pallets Ba River displayed their prowess by overpowering Namara 31-5, and Dominion Brothers Blue finished the day with a convincing 15-0 win against Uluisuvani.

In the first round, Vatukoro had a strong start, winning 17-5 against Dominion Brothers Red, and Village Boys delivered a commanding performance with a 15-0 victory over Survivor Brothers. TEMC Birdland Brothers made a notable impression with a 29-0 win over Duiyasana, while AJ Pallets Ba River edged Midland 12-0.

The men’s division also featured thrilling encounters. The current Kadavu 7s champions, Wardens Gold, kicked off their campaign with a decisive 19-0 victory over Bularoos Rugby, while Vatukoro Brothers managed a 17-5 win against Midland. Namuaniwaqa defeated Naiova decisively with a 19-0 score, and Fire Rugby claimed a win by default against Nawaka.

Local favorites Malake celebrated a close victory, beating Viwa Rugby 7-5, while Namara Rugby overcame Army FTG 14-7. Dominion Brothers made their presence felt with a 26-0 win over Yaro Chiefs, and Mataravua One secured a 29-12 victory against Taikita Brothers. The standout performance of the day came from M. Recht Devo Babas, who achieved an impressive 34-0 win against Senibiau Blues. Uluinakau Babas also had a commanding win, defeating Namacuku Brothers 19-0.
