Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has officially been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea. The commissioning ceremony was led by Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who extended his congratulations to Evans and expressed best wishes for his new diplomatic role.
Evans, a veteran of the military with more than 35 years of dedicated service, comes to this position with a wealth of experience. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command within the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) since his reappointment in 2011. He also previously led the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment as their Commanding Officer during their deployment in Iraq in May 2007.
His impressive military background includes a notable role as the Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006, followed by his promotion to Colonel in 2008. Evans’ accolades include the MFO Peacekeeping Medal recognized for his service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal, which he received for exemplary leadership on two separate occasions—November 1999 and May 2000.
The appointment of Evans represents a promising step for Fiji as it strengthens diplomatic relationships in the Pacific region, showcasing the importance of experienced leadership in fostering international cooperation. His military background and proven leadership skills could contribute significantly to enhancing Fiji’s representation in Papua New Guinea during his term.
