Fiji Appoints New High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea

Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea, marking a significant step in his diplomatic career. The commissioning ceremony was held by Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Evans and wished him success in his new role.

With over 35 years of experience in the military, Evans is well-equipped for this important position. Prior to his current role, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) after being reappointed in 2011. His extensive experience also includes commanding the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment during a deployment in Iraq in May 2007.

Evans has built a distinguished career within the military, having held key positions such as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006 and attaining the rank of Colonel in 2008. His leadership and commitment have been recognized through various awards, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his service in Egypt, and two honors of the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership, received in November 1999 and May 2000.

This new appointment not only highlights Evans’s impressive background but also signifies Fiji’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with Papua New Guinea. With his strong military and leadership experience, he is expected to contribute meaningfully to the growing partnership between the two nations.
