Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has officially been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. The commissioning ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, President of Fiji, who extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Evans and wished him success in his new diplomatic role.
With an extensive military background spanning over 35 years, Evans is well-equipped for this important position. Before his current appointment, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) since his reappointment in 2011. His notable military experience includes leading the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment, in Iraq as Battalion Commander in May 2007.
Throughout his distinguished career, Evans has held significant roles, including serving as the Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at the RFMF Headquarters in 2006, a position that contributed to his promotion to Colonel in 2008. Among the accolades he has received are the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his mission in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership, awarded to him on two separate occasions in late 1999 and mid-2000.
