Fiji and Malaysia: A Growing Trade Partnership

Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Nor Azam Mohd Idrus, has expressed strong support for the expanding trade relationship between Fiji and Malaysia. During his address at the 67th Malaysia National Day and the 61st Malaysia Day celebrations held at the High Commission residence, Mr. Idrus highlighted that Malaysia consistently ranks among Fiji’s top ten trading partners, showcasing the robust and stable trade ties between the two nations.

He pointed out the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, including petroleum oils, soybean oil, and motor vehicles. Mr. Idrus mentioned that representatives from Vision Motors, which imports Proton cars, were present to discuss these impressive Malaysian-made vehicles.

The High Commissioner also mentioned the recent achievements of GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd in establishing business agreements with Malaysian suppliers as a notable development in their trade relations. He expressed pride in the contributions of Malaysian-connected companies, such as the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, which have successfully established themselves in Fiji. Their successes serve to inspire other businesses looking to expand into this promising market.

Mr. Idrus stated that under Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, Malaysia is actively seeking opportunities to collaborate with other nations to create a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and resilient development paradigm. He emphasized that Malaysia, being an open economy, is committed to conducting business globally, including with Fiji and other countries in the region. This approach aligns with the MADANI Economic framework, which aims for structural reforms to foster a sustainable and inclusive future for Malaysia.

In conclusion, Mr. Idrus highlighted that the strong friendship between Malaysia and Fiji extends into their trade relations, further solidifying their partnership.
