Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, participated in a lively celebration honoring the Republic of Korea’s National Day aboard the ROKS Hansando, a Korean naval helicopter training ship, which was docked at Suva Wharf on Thursday evening.
The event, organized by the Korean Embassy in Fiji, highlighted the strong friendship and diplomatic relations between Fiji and South Korea that have been in place since 1971. The ROKS Hansando, with a crew of 290, is on a 110-day voyage visiting eight countries and ten ports, making its eighth stop in Fiji, a testament to the solid defense and maritime cooperation enjoyed by both nations.
Ambassador Jin-Hyung Kim of South Korea remarked on the deepening ties between the two countries across various sectors, including trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. He expressed appreciation for the attendance of diplomats and dignitaries in celebrating Korea’s National Day away from their homeland.
The deck of the ROKS Hansando was beautifully decorated with traditional Korean flags and lights, providing a festive atmosphere for guests who enjoyed an assortment of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted the rich heritage of Korea.
The evening was capped off with a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, symbolizing the enduring partnership between Fiji and Korea.
