Fiji is actively seeking to collaborate with China in various sectors, focusing on sustainable aquaculture practices, marine conservation, and ecological preservation. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized this initiative during his recent visit to Ninghai Village in Ningde, Fujian Province.
During the visit, Rabuka expressed Fiji’s interest in exploring opportunities for collaboration with China to enhance ecological conservation, eco-friendly aquaculture, and fish farming, which aim to develop Fiji’s fisheries sector. He noted that coastal communities and the fisheries industry could significantly benefit from knowledge-sharing and the implementation of marine fish farming projects.
Additionally, Rabuka toured the Ningde Poverty Alleviation and Development Exhibition Hall, highlighting Fiji’s commitment to combating poverty through various initiatives under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. These initiatives include poverty benefits, social pension schemes, care and protection programs, and food vouchers. He also mentioned that Fiji could gain valuable insights from China’s tailored poverty alleviation strategies to improve livelihoods in its communities.
