Fiji and China: A “Golden Milestone” Ahead?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has formally invited President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China to visit Fiji next year to commemorate what Rabuka describes as a ‘golden milestone relationship’ between the two nations. During their meeting in Beijing, Rabuka emphasized the significance of the relationship, which has developed over the past 49 years. He noted that the bond between Fiji and China has remained strong throughout the years. In response, President Xi acknowledged that China and Fiji exemplify a model of equal treatment and amicable cooperation between larger and smaller nations. He also advocated for the establishment of a China-Fiji community centered on a shared future. Notably, Rabuka and Xi previously met in San Francisco last November.
