Fiji Airways Unveils Game-Changing Aviation Academy Upgrades

The Fiji Airways Aviation Academy is not just a training center; it represents a significant opportunity for Fijians, especially women, who have historically been underrepresented in the aviation industry, according to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. During the inauguration of two new flight simulators and two full flight training devices for the academy, Rabuka emphasized that the institution offers world-class training for Fijians.

“Fiji Airways sets a high standard not just in aviation but also in its dedication to our people,” said Rabuka. He described the academy as a transformative entity, particularly for women in the sector. “The establishment of this facility in Fiji is a game changer.”

Rabuka noted that Fiji Airways is responsible for bringing in over 65 to 70 percent of all tourists to Fiji, and it has a stronger global marketing reach than any other organization promoting Fijian tourism. He stated, “These new simulators will improve regional connectivity, enabling us to better assist and support the economies of our neighboring Pacific Island nations.”

Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, Andre Viljoen, said the addition of these new simulators and training devices marks a pivotal moment in the growth of the aviation academy. “We are now fully self-sufficient,” he remarked. The first phase, which included two full flight simulators, was launched in 2020. The second phase involves an investment of $75 million, combined with the original $85 million investment from phase one, totaling $160 million in investments.
