Fiji Airways has launched its new Nadi-Dallas route, significantly connecting Fiji to one of the busiest travel hubs in the world. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Prof Biman Prasad, emphasized this new route’s potential to expand the market of travelers from North America. During the route’s launch in Nadi, he highlighted the importance of tourism to Fiji’s economy, noting that improved connectivity with the United States is poised to provide a major boost.
Prof Prasad reported that in 2023, tourism accounted for 40 percent of Fiji’s economic growth and comprised over 36 percent of employment in the country. He pointed out that Fiji Airways is crucial to the tourism industry, as it transports 70 percent of visitors to the islands. From June 2023 to June 2024, the number of arrivals soared, nearly reaching one million and exceeding pre-pandemic levels by 104 percent.
The new route enhances Fiji’s standing as a top destination in the South Pacific and showcases the nation’s natural beauty and culture to a larger audience. Visitors will have the chance to enjoy Fiji’s pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and the renowned warmth of Fijian hospitality.
Additionally, Prof Prasad noted that the new connection will not only promote tourism but also foster trade and business relationships between Fiji and the United States. It will enable Fijian businesses to tap into new markets, export products, and build partnerships with American companies, thereby contributing to a more diverse and resilient economy.
He commended Fiji Airways for its commitment to delivering award-winning service and strengthening the country’s global connectivity.
