Fiji Airways has made significant strides in advancing its leadership diversity, recently appointing two accomplished women to key executive positions. Anna Morris has been named Chief People Officer, while Kamal Haer takes on the role of Chief Sales and Marketing Officer.
Anna Morris, who is of Rotuman descent and was born in Fiji, has extensive experience in human resources and workforce development. With her tenure at Fiji Airways beginning in 2015, she has focused on enhancing employee engagement and fostering a positive workplace culture. Her previous role was at FIJI Water, where she specialized in operations and performance management. Anna holds degrees in business and arts from Auckland University of Technology and Ecole Superior de Commerce in France, and she also contributes her expertise to the board of directors for Food Processors Fiji Limited.
Kamal Haer, before her new appointment, served as the airline’s Executive Manager for Strategy, Alliances, and Loyalty, where she was instrumental in establishing Fiji Airways’ partnership with oneworld Alliance and integrating American Airlines’ loyalty program. Her diverse leadership background spans several regions including Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Bali, and Japan. Kamal has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the South Pacific and a Master of Business from RMIT University in Australia, and she currently sits on the board of Fijian Holdings Limited.
Fiji Airways emphasized that these promotions not only showcase its commitment to nurturing local talent but also signify strides toward enhancing representation in leadership roles within the aviation sector.
This development aligns with the airline’s broader strategy, which includes an emphasis on gender diversity and employee development across the organization. In a prior article, it was noted that Fiji Airways surpassed the International Air Transport Association’s target of 25 percent female employment, achieving 46 percent representation among its staff. This reflects the airline’s ongoing efforts to empower women, particularly in senior roles.
As Fiji Airways continues to uphold its mission of championing local talent and diversity, this positive shift in leadership could lead to innovative strategies and improved performance in the competitive aviation sector, benefitting both the airline and the broader tourism industry in Fiji.
