Fiji Airways, the national airline of Fiji, is exploring the possibility of expanding its route network. This announcement was made by CEO Andre Viljoen during his address at the Fiji Tourism Convention 2024 in Nadi earlier this week.
Viljoen highlighted several potential new destinations, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Salt Lake City, Chicago, New York, Bogota, Santiago, Perth, Cairns, Gold Coast, Hobart, Queenstown, and Dunedin. He emphasized that these locations are actively being assessed for future flights.
In addition to discussing route expansion, Viljoen noted the airline’s progress in increasing female employment. He mentioned that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) set a goal for airlines to have at least 25 percent female employees by 2025. Fiji Airways has surpassed this target, achieving 46 percent female representation among its staff.
However, Viljoen acknowledged that there is still work to be done, particularly in senior positions and among pilots. He expressed a commitment to improving these figures as part of a strategic focus on gender diversity within the airline.
