Fiji Airways has launched a new route connecting Nadi to Dallas, significantly enhancing travel options for North American travelers, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Prof Biman Prasad. At the route’s inauguration in Nadi, Prof Prasad emphasized that tourism is a critical component of Fiji’s economy, and improved access to the United States is expected to provide a considerable boost.
In 2023, tourism accounted for 40 percent of Fiji’s economic growth and over 36 percent of the nation’s employment. Prof Prasad noted that Fiji Airways is instrumental to the tourism sector, transporting 70 percent of all visitors to the islands. There has been a remarkable increase in visitor numbers from June 2023 to June 2024, with arrivals nearly reaching one million, exceeding pre-pandemic figures by 104 percent.
The new Dallas route reinforces Fiji’s status as a leading destination in the South Pacific, allowing the country to showcase its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Prof Prasad highlighted that visitors will experience Fiji’s beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and friendly hospitality.
Beyond tourism, the new route is anticipated to foster trade and business opportunities between Fiji and the United States. Enhanced connections will help Fijian companies access new markets, export products, and create partnerships with American businesses, thereby contributing to economic diversification and resilience.
Prof Prasad commended Fiji Airways for its commitment to providing excellent service and improving international connectivity for Fiji.
