Fiji Airways has reported a cargo revenue of $99 million for 2023, indicating a significant shift in its operations. Among its exports, turmeric emerged as the leading agricultural product transported by air, with weekly shipments to North America reaching 100 tonnes, as highlighted in the company’s annual report presented in Parliament on Friday.
However, the airline’s cargo revenue experienced a substantial drop of 24 percent due to lower yields stemming from increased competition, as airlines resumed international flights following the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also noted that Fiji Airways facilitated the transportation of over 29,000 tonnes of cargo to and from Fiji.
Fiji Airways emphasized that its cargo services are crucial for the country’s economy, stating that it plays an essential role in enhancing trade and commerce. The company manages shipments from numerous regions, including Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North America, and the Pacific Islands, which supports local businesses and fosters economic growth in Fiji.
