Fiji Airways Academy: A Game Changer for Women in Aviation

The Fiji Airways Aviation Academy has been described as a significant opportunity for Fijians, especially for women who have historically been underrepresented in the aviation industry, by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. During the inauguration of two new flight simulators and full flight training devices for the academy, Rabuka emphasized that the facility is delivering world-class training.

He praised Fiji Airways for its high standards not only in aviation but also in its dedication to the local community. Rabuka noted that the academy serves as a vital opportunity, particularly for women looking to enter the aviation field. He stated that having this facility established in Fiji is transformative.

Rabuka further highlighted the important role Fiji Airways plays in tourism, noting that the airline is responsible for bringing in over 65 to 70 percent of all visitors to Fiji. He explained that the new simulators would improve regional connectivity, facilitating better service and support for economies across the Pacific Islands.

Fiji Airways’ managing director and CEO, Andre Viljoen, remarked on the significance of these new simulators and training devices as a major advancement for the aviation academy. He declared the academy fully self-sufficient now and mentioned that the investment for this second phase amounts to $75 million, adding to the original investment of $85 million made in the first phase in 2020, culminating in a total investment of $160 million.
