Fiji Airports has consistently contributed an average of $20 million in profit share to the government. In an update to Parliament regarding Fiji Airports’ 2021 Annual Report, Social Affairs Committee chairperson Iliesa Vanawalu highlighted the entity’s positive growth trajectory following the global pandemic.
Vanawalu noted that the Nadi Airport master plan would enhance services in collaboration with other aviation and tourism-focused operators, further driving growth. He stated, “All of these factors are advantageous for an institution that significantly contributes to the State’s finances. On average, they have returned about $20 million in profit to the government.”
He emphasized that the airport implemented stringent COVID-19 protocols and continues to monitor health and safety measures. The focus on energy conservation initiatives is expected to bolster their sustainability efforts, leading to reduced operational costs.
Additionally, the potential for Fiji Airways to operate its 737 aircraft from Nausori Airport enhances service capabilities. He underscored the importance of the green initiative undertaken by Fiji Airports, which aims for higher accreditation by 2024.
Vanawalu praised the company’s commitment to enhancing services and upgrading its 15 airport facilities nationwide. He mentioned the modernization of the arrivals area and the passenger experience, pointing out the forecast of one million visitors provided by Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka. He stressed the need for the airport to be among the best in the region, if not the entire Southern Hemisphere.
