Fiji Airports Soars After Pandemic: $20M Profit to Government!

Fiji Airports has reported an average of $20 million in profit-sharing to the government. During a parliamentary update on Fiji Airports’ 2021 Annual Report, Iliesa Vanawalu, chairperson of the Social Affairs Committee, highlighted the company’s positive growth since the global pandemic.

Vanawalu noted that the Nadi Airport master plan aims to enhance services alongside other aviation and tourism-focused operators, fostering further growth. He stated, “These developments are beneficial for an institution that contributes significantly to the State.”

According to Vanawalu, the airport has adhered to strict COVID protocols and continues to monitor these measures. He emphasized that Fiji Airports’ focus on energy-saving initiatives would aid in sustainability efforts, mentioning significant reductions in monthly bills due to an energy conservation exercise.

He also pointed out that Fiji Airways can now operate its 737 aircraft from Nausori Airport, improving service capabilities. The company is set to enhance its green initiatives with plans for new accreditation by 2024.

Vanawalu praised the company’s commitment to improving services and upgrading its 15 airports nationwide. He mentioned that the arrivals area and overall passenger experience are under review. With forecasts from the Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, projecting one million arrivals, he stressed the importance of making the airport one of the best in the region or even the Southern Hemisphere.
