Fiji Aims to Tee Up Golf’s Future with Youth Engagement

Increasing interest in golf among the youth in Fiji is seen as a key strategy for boosting the sport’s visibility both locally and across the Pacific. Shaun Hwang, the vice-president of the Fiji Golf Club, expressed this view during an event at the club in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

Hwang emphasized the importance of involving young people in sports. “In the Pacific, we need the younger generation to participate,” he stated. He encouraged aspiring young golfers to look up to prominent figures such as Vijay Singh, a Fijian-born former world number one golfer, as a source of inspiration.

Having played golf for over ten years, Hwang frequents the golf club on weekends and has been residing in Fiji for 28 years.

In other news, the Stableford Event competition, sponsored by Nagel Goundan, commenced yesterday with 60 participants and will continue weekly. The weather during the event was mostly overcast, but conditions improved as golfers and enthusiasts arrived at the Vatuwaqa club to take part.
