Owen Twist and his wife Christine, an Australian couple, are delighted to be back in Fiji. They were among over 2,000 passengers on the P&O Cruises Australia cruise ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday. The Twists previously lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva.
“It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have contacted through social media,” Owen expressed. He added, “We initially came for two years, but I loved the people so much that I stayed for nine. Even after returning home, Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts.”
Their daughters, who are now nurses, spent part of their childhood in Fiji, and the family’s strong connections there made this visit particularly special. The couple expressed their appreciation for the lasting friendships they forged during their time in Fiji.
During their visit, they collected Fijian souvenirs, purchasing handicrafts from local woodcarver Jone Sito. The cruise ship is scheduled to continue its journey to Taveuni before returning to Sydney.
