Both Fiji Airways 7s teams, Fiji Blue and Fiji White, kicked off the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament at Churchill Park with impressive performances on the first day. Fiji Blue emerged as the leaders of Pool A, achieving three significant victories: a 26-7 win against Fijian Drua, a hard-fought 14-5 triumph over TEMC Warriors, and a resounding 40-0 shutout of the Western Wardens.
Meanwhile, Fiji White also showcased their strength in Pool C, starting with a 15-0 win against Army FTG, followed by a convincing 26-0 victory against Spearhead Yalovata, and concluding the day with an impressive 35-0 win over Mataravua.
Despite these successes, head coach Osea Kolinisau believes there is still potential for improvement. “It was a good start for Fiji Blue against TEMC Warriors, and a strong tempo from the White team as well. I’m thankful for the boys’ performances,” Kolinisau stated. He noted that while the teams had a solid showing, particularly in the second games, there were missed opportunities that they need to address.
Emphasizing the importance of focus and recovery, Kolinisau reminded his players, “We don’t win on day one. Tomorrow (today) is the main day for us. We’ll go back, recover, and come back strong for the finals.”
This positive perspective illustrates the teams’ commitment to continuous improvement and determination, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming matches.
In summary, both Fiji Airways 7s teams had a successful day at the tournament, showcasing their skills while also recognizing the need to refine their game for the finals, highlighting a strong competitive spirit moving forward.
