Fiji 7s rugby legend Waisale Serevi is currently in a hospital in India due to chest pains. Serevi, who serves as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s 7s teams in India, had recently led the women’s team to a silver medal at the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy in Nepal. He was admitted to the hospital on October 10.
Rugby India expressed well wishes for Serevi’s recovery through a social media update, stating, “We wish our 7s Head Coach, Waisale Serevi, all the very best in his recovery. We shall provide another update in 24 hours from now.” The statement added that he is stable and in good spirits.
According to reports from Manipal Hospital, where Serevi is being treated, a coronary angiogram has revealed minor coronary artery disease. The hospital indicated that he is currently stable and is expected to be moved out of intensive care the following day.
In response, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka extended his warmest wishes to Serevi for a speedy and complete recovery, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Get well soon.”
