Fiji rugby legend Waisale Serevi has been hospitalized in India due to chest pains. Serevi, who is the head coach of both the Indian men’s and women’s 7s teams and recently led the women to a silver medal at the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy in Nepal, was admitted on October 10.
Rugby India announced on social media, “We wish our 7s Head Coach, Waisale Serevi, all the very best in his recovery. We will provide another update in 24 hours.” They added that he is currently stable and in good spirits.
Manipal Hospital, where Serevi is receiving treatment, reported that a coronary angiogram has indicated he has minor coronary artery disease. The hospital stated he is stable and is expected to be moved out of the ICU tomorrow.
In a show of support, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka extended his warm wishes for Serevi’s swift and complete recovery. “Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Get well soon,” he said.
