The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua 7s and the Fiji Airways national men’s rugby team recently faced off in an exciting series of practice matches at the Drua ground in Nadi. The two teams competed in four rounds of seven-minute matches, with the national 7s squad demonstrating their prowess by clinching victory in all encounters. The final scores were 14-0, 14-5, 14-5, and 12-5, showcasing the national team’s strong performance.
Drua head coach Glen Jackson expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to play against the national side, stating, “We thank Osea Kolinisau for bringing his boys to play against our young players. We’re obviously in a development and preseason phase, and a lot of these boys don’t get much rugby time. It was awesome to have a good hit out.”
Fiji Airways 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau also acknowledged the significance of these training matches. He mentioned, “We knew they’d be very physical in the breakdowns, which was different from what we face in regular training.”
As the Drua gears up for the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s scheduled for November 15-16, this practice session served as a critical assessment of their current capabilities and an opportunity to strategize on improving their game. The rivalry and cooperation between these teams are crucial as they all strive for excellence, filling both fans and coaches with anticipation for the upcoming matches.
This positive exchange not only helps develop player skills but also strengthens the camaraderie within the Fijian rugby community, fostering growth and competitiveness that could lead to greater success on the international stage.
