FIFA legend Luke Wilkshire has been announced as the chief guest for the Extra Supermarket Fiji Football Association Awards Night, set to take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on December 1. Wilkshire, known for his impressive career as a right back, has represented Australia in 80 international matches and played for notable clubs such as Middlesbrough and Bristol City in the English Premier League, as well as Dutch club Feyenoord.
This event marks the much-anticipated return of the Fiji FA Awards Night, which has been on hiatus for the past three years. According to Fiji FA CEO Mohammed Yusuf, the awards will feature 14 prestigious categories, thanks to the support of the new sponsor, Extra Supermarket. This partnership is expected to elevate the event, promising a more engaging and larger celebration than in previous years.
The awards up for consideration include titles such as Footballer of the Year (Male and Female), Young Footballer of the Year (Male and Female), Futsal Player of the Year (Male and Female), Team of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Referee of the Year, Elite Player of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Employee of the Year.
This year’s awards night not only aims to honor the achievements of outstanding players and contributors to Fiji football but also gives the local community a moment to celebrate the resilience and growth of the sport following recent challenges.
As Fiji moves forward, the return of such events signifies a hopeful future for football in the region, inspiring young athletes to pursue their passion with determination and offering recognition to those who have dedicated their efforts to the sport.
