As the festive season approaches, the National Fire Authority (NFA) has raised alarms over the increasing number of structural fires reported this year. Between January and September, there have been 152 such incidents, leading to an estimated damage of $20.2 million.

In a statement, NFA CEO Puamau Sowane highlighted that electrical issues continue to be the predominant cause of fires, a trend observed over the last five years. Other significant causes include arson and unsupervised cooking, which pose serious risks, especially during this celebratory time.

With Diwali fast approaching, Sowane urges the community to prioritize safety when engaging in any fire-related activities. He emphasized the importance of not leaving cooking unattended and using firecrackers responsibly to prevent unfortunate accidents.

To reassure the public, Sowane confirmed that NFA water trucks are fully prepared to respond swiftly in case of a fire outbreak. “If there’s a fire and the need arises, our fire trucks are ready to step in to help,” he stated.

As the community gears up for festivities, taking these safety precautions can ensure that celebrations remain joyful and free from tragedies.

In summary, as we approach a season filled with joy and celebrations, it is crucial to remain vigilant about fire safety. By adhering to the NFA’s recommendations, we can all contribute to a safe and happy environment during the festive season. Let’s celebrate together responsibly!
