The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is taking significant steps to enhance its efforts in fighting corruption by focusing on public education and awareness. FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali emphasized the importance of empowering citizens to identify and report corruption, thereby fostering a culture rooted in integrity and accountability.

She highlighted the organization’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with government entities, civil society organizations, and international allies to improve collaborative efforts against corruption. Despite facing substantial criticism last year, which led to doubts about their processes and subjected staff to bullying on social media, FICAC remains dedicated to its mission.

Malimali reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to ethical governance, transparency, and accountability. She noted that FICAC has been pro-active in dispatching officers to investigate and prosecute individuals engaged in corrupt activities, sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Looking ahead to 2025, FICAC is determined to pursue a corruption-free Fiji. The commission plans to continue investing in its workforce, utilizing technology, and refining strategies to tackle emerging challenges effectively. Malimali called on citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, expressing gratitude for the trust and support of the Fijian people. She concluded with a hopeful vision: together, they can cultivate a brighter, corruption-free future characterized by good governance.

This commitment serves as a testament to the resilience and dedication of FICAC in promoting a culture of integrity within Fiji. Continuing to involve the community in these efforts lends hope to the fight against corruption, suggesting that with collective action, meaningful change is possible.
