FICAC’s Call to Action: Unite for a Corruption-Free Fiji

Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali emphasized the Commission’s vital role in promoting justice within the realm of corruption. Speaking to her staff during the Fiji Day celebration at FICAC’s headquarters in Suva, she noted that this year’s theme, “To heal and hope,” aptly represents Fiji’s multicultural unity and tolerance.

Malimali expressed pride in being Fijian, reflecting on the collective achievements that have shaped the nation. “As we observe our blue banner, we remember the hard work and faith that have forged the Fiji we know today,” she stated.

She highlighted the efforts of civil servants across Fiji who are actively participating in community clean-up initiatives. Although FICAC may not be involved in these physical activities, Malimali underscored the Commission’s commitment to eradicating corruption.

Acknowledging that Fiji’s history has faced numerous challenges, be they political, natural, or social, she praised the resilience of Fijians. “Our ability to rise from adversities with our famous ‘Bula smiles’ sets us apart and reinforces our solidarity,” she remarked.

Malimali recognized her staff for their hard work in promoting transparency and accountability, urging them to enhance FICAC’s efforts. “FICAC is well-resourced, and with that comes great responsibility. The people of Fiji expect much from us. We need to focus on our mission, put aside distractions and criticism, and demonstrate that FICAC is committed to balancing the scales of justice.”
