Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, emphasized the vital role of the Commission in promoting justice regarding corruption issues during a Fiji Day celebration at FICAC’s headquarters in Suva. The theme of this year’s celebration, “To heal and hope,” symbolizes Fiji’s multicultural unity and tolerance.
Malimali stated that the pride of all Fijians swells as they reflect on the nation’s journey and the hard work that has shaped modern Fiji. She highlighted that civil servants across the country are contributing to community cleanliness efforts, while FICAC’s mission is to eradicate corruption.
Acknowledging the country’s tumultuous past, Malimali expressed the resilience of the Fijian people and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook. She praised her staff for their commitment to fostering transparency and accountability and urged them to enhance FICAC’s impact.
She reminded the team that the resources at their disposal come with high expectations from the public. Malimali encouraged her colleagues to disregard negativity, unite for a common purpose, and reaffirm FICAC’s role in ensuring justice prevails in the nation.
