The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is currently undergoing a review aimed at assessing its operational challenges and the difficulties encountered by law enforcement agencies. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that this review is part of The People’s Alliance party manifesto.
Mr. Rabuka stated, “It is being reviewed right now,” and reiterated that this initiative was a commitment made to the voters. He emphasized the importance of examining the mechanisms and various issues arising within law enforcement, particularly concerning investigative bodies.
Furthermore, he assured voters that the review of the 2013 Constitution would proceed according to the framework outlined in the document. He said, “That is part of the manifesto and it’s a very straightforward motion,” reminding the party of their promise to the electorate.
Mr. Rabuka indicated that the government would seek expert legal advice on the best approaches to amend the 2013 Constitution while adhering to legal guidelines. He also mentioned plans to engage with the public to gather input on the constitutional review, either through a referendum or by encouraging submissions from citizens.
He added, “We still have the session later in the year when we can come back and do some parliamentary work on it.”
