The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has submitted a matter concerning its Commissioner Barbara Malimali to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for further evaluation. This issue relates to a complaint of alleged Abuse of Office that occurred during her time as the Electoral Chair with the Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF).

Additionally, FICAC has confirmed the closure of five cases that were previously referred by the Supervisor of Elections earlier this year, with the Supervisor being informed of the closures on July 24, 2024.

The cases that have been closed include allegations of corrupt practices involving the FijiFirst Party, specifically targeting the Fiji First Australia Association Incorporated, Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and Mr. Tito Bainimarama. Other complaints involved Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Mr. Mohammed Saneem regarding collusion and conflict of interest, as well as Mr. Arif Ali for donating $10,000 to the FijiFirst Party while serving as a civil servant. Additional complaints were lodged against His Excellency, The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, and Mr. Charan Jeath Singh. Moreover, one case addressed Mr. Voreqe Bainimarama’s submission of false declarations related to Income, Assets, and Liabilities for multiple years, along with a complaint against Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum for not declaring an overseas travel allowance.

Regarding other matters still under investigation, FICAC has indicated that it will refrain from commenting until the investigations are concluded. The Commission assures the public that it is functioning normally and continues to process all complaints meticulously, regardless of the individuals involved.
