The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has reiterated its commitment to independence, asserting that there has been no interference from the Government.
In an official statement, FICAC emphasized that neither the Government nor any Political Parties have intervened in its ongoing investigations, ensuring that all procedures are being followed diligently.
The Commission referenced a previous press release from March, clarifying that any disruptions were not linked to the current Coalition Government but were instead associated with former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Additionally, FICAC mentioned a letter of complaint filed by Sayed-Khaiyum to Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, concerning former Deputy Commissioner Francis Puleiwai in April 2024; however, the outcome of this complaint remains unclear.
FICAC noted significant changes over the past year, including leadership transitions and staff turnover, which have impacted the progress of its investigations.
Despite these challenges, FICAC affirmed its dedication to resolving outstanding cases and maintaining its operational independence as mandated by law.
