The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) asserts its independence and emphasizes that it has not experienced any interference from the Government.
In an official statement, FICAC reiterated that neither the Government nor any political parties have interfered with its investigations or ongoing cases, affirming that due process is rigorously followed.
The commission referenced a prior announcement from March, clarifying that any alleged interference stemmed not from the current Coalition Government, but from former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Moreover, FICAC highlighted Sayed-Khaiyum’s letter of complaint to Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere regarding former Deputy Commissioner Francis Puleiwai in April 2024, noting the current status of this complaint remains unclear.
FICAC acknowledged that significant changes in leadership and staff turnover over the past year have impacted the completion of its investigations. However, the commission affirmed its commitment to finalizing pending cases and maintaining its independence as mandated by law.
