FICAC Closes Case on Former Attorney-General: What’s Next?

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will not pursue charges against former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum over allegations of violating Section 24 (5) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduction, Funding, and Disclosures) Act 2013. Investigations conducted by FICAC found insufficient evidence to support the claim that Sayed-Khaiyum had breached the law.

On July 24, 2024, FICAC informed the Fijian Elections Office of its decision to close the investigation file related to these allegations. Additionally, FICAC has provided recommendations to the Fijian Elections Office, suggesting areas that require review and enhancement to avoid similar issues in the future and to ensure clearer guidance during investigations.
