FICAC Clears Former Attorney-General in Corruption Case

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has decided not to move forward with prosecution against former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum concerning allegations of violating Section 24 (5) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduction, Funding, and Disclosures) Act 2013.

Investigations conducted by FICAC indicated that there was insufficient evidence to establish that Sayed-Khaiyum had breached the act.

On July 24, 2024, FICAC informed the Fijian Elections Office of its intention to close the case regarding the allegations. Additionally, FICAC has made recommendations to the Fijian Elections Office, suggesting improvements to strengthen the framework to prevent similar issues in the future and enhance clarity and support during investigations.
