FICAC Clears Fiji President: Allegations Dismissed!

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has determined that President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has no allegations to answer. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made this announcement, revealing that FICAC has closed the investigation files regarding the complaints against the President.

Rabuka confirmed that Ratu Katonivere will continue to be the Coalition Government’s nominee for the presidential position, with the election anticipated to occur during a special session of Parliament at the end of this month.

He noted that discomfort existed with certain presidential nominees, which prompted him to withdraw his own nomination during yesterday’s proceedings. Rabuka elaborated that FICAC had requested information from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) concerning Ratu Wiliame’s financial details, and the data received was adequate to refute the allegations.

FICAC also audited the assets and liabilities declared in the FIU report, and following the investigation, there was no evidence to support the claims made by the complainant. As a result, the files have been formally closed.
