Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali emphasized the Commission’s vital role in upholding justice in the fight against corruption. During a Fiji Day celebration at FICAC headquarters in Suva, she highlighted this year’s theme, “To heal and hope,” which reflects the unity and tolerance of Fiji’s diverse cultures.

Malimali expressed that on this occasion, Fijians both locally and in the diaspora feel immense pride as they reflect on the nation’s progress and resilience. She noted that while civil servants across Fiji engage in community clean-up efforts, FICAC’s mission is to combat corruption at a national level.

Acknowledging past challenges, including political and social turmoil, she praised the unique spirit of Fijians, characterized by their ability to recover with positivity. The Commissioner urged her staff to continue their diligent work in promoting transparency and accountability towards achieving a corruption-free Fiji. She called for a renewed effort to enhance FICAC’s impact, reminding everyone that with the resources available, there comes a greater expectation from the public.

Malimali encouraged her team to focus on their mission and demonstrate FICAC’s commitment to balancing the scales of justice, despite any criticism or distractions they may face.
